Location

Golden Sands Black Sea resort is situated 15 km away from Varna. Because of its natural beauty – excellent climate, unique natural park, fine golden sand and healing hot springs, it has been famous for a long time as the pearl on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. According to the legend says the name Golden Sands was given to the resort because pirates have buried an enormous gold treasure along the coast north from Varna. The soil's revenge to the bandits was that it turned the gold in a wonderful sand. Golden Sands is famous for its gold-coloured fine sand and the wide and long beach.

 

Climate

The cool summer starts in May and very often continues until the last days of October, and the crystal clear sea water remains warm even after sunset with the temperature frequently going up to 25-26oС

Aladzha Monastery
Aladzha Monastery is situated 17 km to the northeast of Varna in a vertical rock formation of the Frangen plateau. The rock monastery comprises a church, a string of monk cells, requiescat church, kitchen with a dining area, crypt and a small chapel with well-preserved medieval murals. Roman thermal spring
The Roman thermal spring (bath) located in the southeast part of Varna are the biggest public antique building discovered in Bulgaria to date. The relatively well-preserved walls outline an impressive structure built on more than 7000 sq. m. The inner stairs and vault arches, the exquisite mosaics and marble elements, the columns and capitals are an indication of the rich decoration of the building. Earth Pillars Dekilitash
Situated 18 km to the west of Varna – one of the most amazing phenomena in Bulgaria, they represent natural rock columns reaching height of 6 m. The group of columns looking like fossil animals or frozen waterfalls is also very attractive. Fanagoria Proto-Bulgarian Settlement
The historic – ethnographic complex Fanagoria Proto – Bulgarian Settlement is the only functioning open museum of its kind in the country. The complex is a copy of a proto-Bulgarian military camp from 6-8 century and comprises wooden protection walls with battle turrets, furnished tents, functioning craftsmen's workshops, recovered ancient costumes, armaments and furnishing. Vladislav Varnenchik Park Museum
The mausoleum is devoted to the battle near Varna on 10 November 1444. It is built in the centre of the historic battle field, where the hero and king of Poland and Hungary Vladislav Varnenchik found his death. The rich exhibition gives an idea of the gloomy era in our history and the glorious marches of king Vladislav III Yagelo and Yanosh Hunyadi in 1443-1444. Museum of Archaeology
Varna Museum of Archaeology covers an area of 2000 sq. m. and has 32 halls which are the home of permanent exhibitions – Prehistory, Ancient History, Middle Ages, Bulgarian Revival Icon Painting. The oldest gold treasure in the world is exhibited here. It dates before 4000 b. c. The Assumption Cathedral Temple – Monument
Located in the very centre of Varna. The Assumption cathedral is one of the symbols of our sea capital. A temple for the prayers of the people in Varna and at the same time a sight in the tourist routes.
